can be processed as classic thermoplasts
can be recycled up to 4 or 5 times (Publication by Main et al.)
biodegradable
waterproof
small tendency to creep
behaves similar to LPC's in the melt, for this:
finest surfaces
thin walls
microparts
free from even traces of catalysts!
highly crystalline (60 to 70%), for this:
excellent resistance to solvents
temperature of use: -30 to 120°C
shrinkage: 1,3 %
Renewable feedstock meet the criteria of sustainable response. In addition they do not add to the CO² concentration in the atmosphere.
Biomer resins are inert towards water, even after extended exposure. Thus articles can be produced which come into contact with water. They also are fairly resistant towards fats and oils. Thus articles made of Biomer resins protect sensitive products against moisture and oily soilings.
Injection molded products made of certain Biomer formulations have a shiny surface. Thus optically attractive products can be created.
The monomer as well as the polymer are natural components and metabolites of human cells. They are not toxic even at high concentrations. Thus Biomer formulations can be used for articles which come into contact with skin, feed or food (registration for food contact in progress).
In composts where nitrogen and phosphates are abundant, articles made with Biomer resins are taken up by bacteria and fungi as nutrient. No toxic byproducts are accumulated. Under optimal conditions thin walled injection molded articles are composted within 2 months. Therefore articles made with Biomer resins can be disposed of with ordinary kitchen wastes. Without composting conditions they remain intact for years (cf. remarks on biodegradation).
